Fallen Earth: QotW#29: PVP, Voice Chat, and World Progression
image

In this week's QotW feature, Cynagin gave an update on the development progress and answered few PvP-centric questions:

Great news, everyone. We've got another Fiction Friday on the way, so stay tuned. No previews yet. That said, on with our regular Wednesday edition of QotW:

-------------------------------
Back from the Virtual Worlds conference in San Jose, which wraps up convention season for this year. San Jose is mostly a business show so it's probably not going to get a ton of press, but it was a great show for us. Currently we're working on several towns (Sunshine Corners, Haven, Post 23) in addition to really jazzing up the visuals in the game, including reworking many of the critters.

1. If we all post three questions in a row instead of editing our first.. Will we more likely get answers?
No. I hadn't been paying attention to names as to who was posting what, but with some folks posting lots and lots of questions I'll start paying attention.

2. Could you shed some light on this? When going into a PVP zone or Town will we have friendly fire? Where if your on the same team do we have the chance to hit other members of our own faction or kill them? And if so what are the negatives if you do so?
We've actually restructured things a bit: as long as you are in a PvP zone you can shoot anyone you want. You can shoot members of your own faction in PvP zones. If you are involved in killing a member of your faction you will lose status with that faction. Doing so forces you to lose faction ranks or even turn your faction hostile to you.

3. Progressively, would the rest of the world become habitable? or is it on a too distant timescale to even suggest? Would be nice to see some famous ruins. Bit more feel of earth.
In future expansions we plan to move beyond the Grand Canyon to other areas of the world that have survived in some fashion in addition to changing the radiation and plague zones within the Grand Canyon to open up new areas. These new areas introduced in expansions will include some well-known cities and such in the region.

4. Also how does teaching work in FE, does it require AP's to teach?
Teaching allows characters to make books that can be read by other players, teaching the reader various knowledges. Teaching a knowledge is a knowledge in itself that requires the knowledge it is teaching, so creating a book to teach someone the Baseball Bat knowledge (a Weaponry knowledge) requires the Teach Baseball Bat knowledge, which in turn requires the Baseball Bat knowledge. In short you can only teach what you already know. Teaching is considered a tradeskill and thus does not require AP to raise and is instead raised through use, though it will require AP to reach the highest levels of Teaching by raising your Intelligence and Perception.

5. What are all the things the vivox voice chat is for? Is it only for groups/teams, or is it also for a more general form of communication?
VOIP is only for chat within your group. We don't want to make it the basis for general communications due to a wide variety of issues (bandwidth, hearing people talking all the time, noise levels, etc). You'll only use our VOIP if you join a group.
