Fallen Earth: QotW#27: Beta Delayed Till Next Year!
image

After WarCry dug-up the news of Fallen Earth hiring last Saturday, Cynagin announced today within the Weekly Question feature the inevitable Beta delay till sometimes next year due to the massive nature of this title. Although fans were disappointed, this news reassures the fact that FE team will not compromise quality for a quick release:

So this week we've got some news: Fallen Earth is not going to be entering beta this year, but in order to speed development of the game, we're bringing in more people, as you may have seen from some posts on the forums over the weekend. We're all plugging away on it full speed. It's just a bigger beast than we expected; thus, we need more wranglers to bring it to heel.

On to the questions this week. We'll get back to Picture of the Week next week.

1. Do we get/make bags to carry?

Currently, characters have 64 inventory slots, which do not increase over the course of the game. Usually, a player will hit his weight limit before his slot limit. We may change that at some point, but likely not before release.

2. Are bank slots only accessible in the town I put them in, or can I put my stuff in one town and get it in another?

A character's personal storage is accessible from any vault. We thought running two hours to get that item you forgot three towns back would be too much of an annoyance.

3. Can we expand our bank size in some way? I always run out in other games.

Characters have 64 bank slots that currently cannot be increased. Again we may change that at some point post-release.

4. Will currency have weight assigned to it and be part of my total carry weight?

No, currency has no weight.

5. Can you further the cause of villain factions which are opposed to your rival faction?

Almost all villain factions have it out for the six main factions, but you may be able to work with some of them short-term. Eventually though, they're going to try to give you a dirt nap. By your very nature as a faction member, a carrier of mutant DNA, or a person with a differing ideology, they'll all be after you in the end.

6. Will you be able to use against each other and gain recognition with villain factions as well as your own?

If you actively aid a villain faction, you can gain faction ratings with some of them, but doing so lowers your faction rating with the six main factions and the general population of the Grand Canyon. Yes, you can do enough dastardly deeds where you will be welcome in none of the factions or among the people of the Grand Canyon at all. I don't recommend it.

7. My question is does this mean that "dedicated" crafters will have an advantage in what they can craft? I mean in terms of how they spend their APs?

My thoughts previously had been that you would have a slight advantage since you had maxxed out appropriate stats and optimized inventory space for crafting resources and loot, but that given the crafting system, anyone and everyone could do some crafting and thus the difference wouldn't be much.
Being a dedicated crafter takes time in addition to APs. You have to find the recipes to keep advancing your skills, the resources to make them, the production facilities to speed up crafting time, etc. While a lot of combat-oriented players will do crafting in the background, its unlikely they'll have the interest in anything other than the basic recipes available from merchants. The real dedicated crafter who spends time looking for rare recipes is going to have an edge in Fallen Earth.

8. What's that?

That is a creeper. It's a common mutant creature in the Plateau, Northfields, Kaibab Forest, and the Grainway. They aren't particularly dangerous critters one on one, but they rarely roam alone. They can make tasty eating if you know how to cut them up right.

8. I'd like to know how many sectors there will be at launch, their name, and if possible, the general "theme" of each sector (grassland, desert, forest etc). And any other additional info/lore about the sectors would be very nice as well.

Well the names of some sectors are present in the previous question, but as to specifics we're purposefully being tight-lipped about those. We're going to be supplying more background material in the future, but we are steering away from providing real geographic info in favor of letting players discover the world on their own. This is a game largely about exploration, so we want to encourage players to find things themselves.
