Cynagin posted today an official update on FE development and even released a couple of screenshots depicting a ruined site called Oilville:
You asked for an update! Here goes:
We're still hard at work on the end of the world. Artists are retooling existing visuals and adding new creations to the game - dynamic lighting so we can have the flickering glow of a burning stack of tires dance on the walls of our shanties. The content development team has been tasked with transferring data from spreadsheets into the game's crafting system. On a weekly basis, we're playing in the towns of the game's first sector. Primarily, this is to stress-test the current iteration of the game so we can tweak as needed. It's also so we can take a break from the tedium of data entry and have some fun in the world we're building.
We understand you're hungry for information. However, it's our hope that you'll understand that it requires assets from all our departments to put something like a newsletter together - and the departments are all too focused on making the game to devote resources to other projects currently. We'll continue answering the Question of the Week, but don't expect a lot of updates like this. If we're not saying a lot right now, it's because we're busy working on the game. When we have more to report, trust us, you'll hear us shouting from the rooftops. Until then, please be patient.
Finally: Still no firm date on closed beta and certainly no firm date on release. When we have more to say on that, you'll certainly be the first to hear about it!
Perhaps not the most compelling update, lacking an abundance of juicy details, but there's not a lot of excitement in spreadsheet work. On the other hand, the artists have really done a fantastic job on the town of Oilville, one of the major towns in the first sector.
